Show or manage Windows network configuration

Prints this Windows host's IP configuration. Plain ipconfig gives a short summary; /all adds MAC addresses, DHCP and DNS server details. It can also fix stale network state: /flushdns clears the local DNS cache, and /release plus /renew forces a fresh DHCP lease.

Usage

Options and flags

• /all

  full details: MAC address, DHCP server, DNS servers, lease times

• /flushdns

  clear the local DNS resolver cache

• /release

  give back the current DHCP-assigned address

• /renew

  request a new address from DHCP

• /displaydns

  show what's currently cached in the DNS resolver

Examples

• ipconfig

  Quick summary: IP address, subnet mask, default gateway.

• ipconfig /all

  Full details including MAC address and DNS servers — what you need for a real network inventory.

• ipconfig /flushdns

  A stale DNS entry is still pointing at the old (fixed) server — this clears it out.

• ipconfig /release

  Drop the current DHCP lease — usually followed immediately by /renew.
